5th grade
The 5th grade at the Dawe School covers many songs and examines many different kinds of styles of music. We work out of the Spotlight on Music Series, have fun singing songs from the K-8 Magazine and also play rhythm instruments and melodic percussion instruments. We get to create our own music and study the 12 Bar Blues in depth. We also do the "famous" trivia contest, and we get to listen to many different kinds of music and guess which composer wrote it. A highlight for 5th grade is that they get to attend a performance of The Nutcracker in Providence. The above picture shows a fifth grade class waiting for the ballet to begin.
A lot of students are members of the Dawe School Band and all 5th grades are members of the Dawe School Chorus. Children may still start a band instrument at this grade. They quickly catch up when they start in the 5th grade and usually move up to the Dawe School Band in no time.
